For over 30 years, SENS eRecycling has ensured that electrical and electronic equipment in Switzerland is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

The SENS eRecycling system is based on clear responsibilities and a mutual system of financing. It provides manufacturers, importers and retailers with a simple, legally compliant and efficient solution for fulfilling their statutory take-back and disposal obligations.

The advance recycling contribution

It all begins with the advance recycling contribution (ARC), which is paid by end customers when they purchase electrical or electronic equipment. The ARC covers all costs along the recycling chain, from collection to transportation, disassembly and recycling, as well as the coordination and publicity work performed by SENS eRecycling.

The amount of the ARC is determined by the respective equipment category and is disclosed transparently. Our business partners can rest assured that there are no hidden additional costs and they benefit from a high level of planning reliability.

Collection

Disused equipment is collected at over 630 SENS collection points or directly at retailers. Retailers, manufacturers and other partners connected to the SENS system can use the online portal to easily arrange the pick-up of old equipment they have collected. This ensures that the equipment enters the recycling cycle quickly, safely and in a legally compliant manner.

Transportation

As soon as a pick-up order is triggered, the professional transportation of the collected equipment is organised through certified recycling companies. The logistics partners guarantee safe handling of sensitive or potentially hazardous old equipment, including lithium-ion batteries or components containing mercury. Transportation costs are covered by the ARC.

Dismantling and recycling

At the specialist recycling partners, the equipment is disassembled using both manual and mechanical means. Components that contain hazardous substances are removed and disposed of separately. Once disassembly is complete, the individual materials enter the actual recycling process. Metals, plastics, glass and other recyclable materials are separated by type and returned to the circular economy as secondary raw materials. SENS works exclusively with certified recycling companies that meet the highest standards in terms of environmental, occupational and plant safety.
