Heat pumps: Switzerland-wide solution for efficient recycling

Together with GebäudeKlima Schweiz (GKS) and the Swiss Professional Association for Heat Pumps (FWS), SENS eRecycling has introduced an industry solution for the environmentally friendly and cost-efficient disposal of heat pumps.

Just like cooling appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioning units, these devices contain coolants that must be professionally removed to prevent the gases causing environmental damage.

Sustainable recycling and regular checks

Heat pumps contain valuable raw materials such as aluminium, iron, copper and plastics. These are processed by the recycling companies and returned to the raw material cycle. At the same time, the hazardous substances they contain are disposed of in a professional and environmentally friendly manner. 

SENS eRecycling sends these appliances exclusively to Swiss plants that hold the required authorisations and are in possession of a SENS licence for processing the respective equipment category. The plants are subject to regular inspections by SENS eRecycling, which assess aspects relating to environmental and occupational safety.
