Private-sector financing through the advance recycling contribution

The SENS recycling system is entirely financed through the advance recycling contribution (ARC), which covers all costs relating to collection, logistics and recycling.

To make the scheme as simple and accessible as possible, the ARC has been included in the price of electrical and electronic equipment sold by SENS partners since its introduction in 2003. As the purchase price already includes disposal costs, no additional charges are incurred when the equipment is returned to collection points or retail stores – an essential requirement for ensuring a successful recycling system.

Even though the vast majority of manufacturers and importers of electrical equipment in Switzerland participate in the recycling system of SENS eRecycling, unfortunately, it is not yet all of them. That’s a real shame, because the more companies participate and the fewer non-system participants there are, the better the system functions as a whole – and the more convenient the disposal of electronic waste will be for you. 

Wherever possible, you should therefore purchase new equipment from a company that is a member of the SENS recycling system. By doing so, you support the professional and environmentally friendly recycling of your equipment, as well as our partners, who ensure that the recycling of electrical appliances is financed fairly.

ORDEE vs ARC

While the Ordinance on the Return, Taking Back and Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (ORDEE) forms the legal basis, the advance recycling contribution (ARC) regulates the financing of the costs incurred.
