Milestones
1990
SENS eRecycling is founded under the name Stiftung Entsorgung Schweiz.
1991
Introduction of a nationwide disposal service for refrigerators in Switzerland using a disposal sticker.
1998
With the ORDEE, the Swiss Federal Council enacts an ordinance on the return, taking back and disposal of electrical and electronic equipment. An overall system is established.
2002
The international Forum for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Forum) is established with the participation of SENS.
2003
The ARF advance recycling fee (now known as the ARC advance recycling contribution) is introduced.
2008
eRecycling goes international with SENS International (now known as the Fair Recycling Foundation).
2010
SENS launches the e-Recycling.ch quality label.
2013
- The SENS eRecycling brand is launched.
- A contract is concluded with the Swissolar industry association, and photovoltaic modules have been recycled ever since.
2014
WEEE Europe AG (now PRONEXA AG) is established with the involvement of SENS eRecycling and eight other producer responsibility systems. Together with PRONEXA AG, a central compliance solution for extended producer responsibility (EPR) is subsequently established in various EU markets.
2018
The first International E-Waste Day takes place.
2019
The “Electro Recycling Bag” pilot project is launched.
2020
To celebrate its 30th birthday, SENS eRecycling goes on tour with the “SENS City – 30 years of eRecycling” roadshow.
2021
SENS eRecycling merges with the Swiss Light Recycling Foundation (SLRS).
2022
An industry solution for e-mobility is launched together with the Swiss association of independent car dealers.
2023
- Two new industry solutions are implemented: one for heat pumps and one for the collection and disposal of e-cigarettes.
- The Circular Platform is launched.
- SENS eRecycling exceeds the one-million-tonne mark for the collection and recycling of reusable materials and first makes use of artificial intelligence to identify electric appliances with SENS AI.
