Electro Recycling Bag: eRecycling from home
The electric toothbrush has packed in, the razor won't charge any more, and old cables are piling up in the cellar along with a broken drill. It's obvious really: all of this belongs in recycling. Yet time is often short, as is the car, or simply the inclination to drive to the nearest collection point. This is exactly where the Electro Recycling Bag comes in – eRecycling that comes to your door.
The principle is simple. You order the Electro Recycling Bag from the Shop and it's delivered to you by post. Then you proceed as follows:
For you as a consumer, that means: no trip to the collection point, no registration, no appointment. SENS eRecycling and its partners then take care of the professional, environmentally sound recycling of the equipment.
What belongs in the Electro Recycling Bag?
In principle, anything with electronic or electrical components that fits inside can be disposed of in the Electro Recycling Bag: electric toothbrushes, razors, curling irons, irons, blenders, toasters, torches, alarm clocks, small toys, drills and much more. The following items must not be placed in the bag: loose batteries and rechargeable batteries, packaging material, instruction manuals, and items without any electronic or electrical components.
Why is eRecycling free at the collection point, but not the Electro Recycling Bag?
When you buy an electrical appliance from an ARC partner, an advance recycling contribution (ARC) is charged. This means environmentally sound recycling is already funded. That's why you can hand in disused equipment free of charge at any time, either at a sales outlet or at one of the more than 630 SENS collection points. The ARC covers collection, transport to the dismantling or recycling company, and the recycling itself.
What the ARC doesn't cover is an individual collection directly from your home. With the Electro Recycling Bag, Swiss Post takes on this extra effort: delivering the empty bag, collecting it from your address, and transporting it for sorting. This logistics service comes at a cost – hence the small fee of CHF 5.–. Recycling itself is therefore no more expensive than usual; you're simply paying for the convenience of doorstep collection.
The Electro Recycling Bag works
The Electro Recycling Bag was launched in 2022 as a pilot project together with Swiss Post in the cantons of Zurich, Bern and Geneva. In the first four months alone, more than 6.5 tonnes of disused electrical equipment were collected. With a contamination rate of less than 0.5%, one thing became clear: whoever orders the Electro Recycling Bag also fills it correctly. Since 2024, the service has been available to every household in Switzerland. In 2025, around 440 full bags were collected across the country.
